Take a city break to Milan to explore Italy’s fashion capital and discover the best-known Italian Lake Como.
Wander in the busy streets of Milan with its chic high-end shops and buildings for you to admire and on day 2 discover Como and Lake Como in Italy’s beautiful Lake District with a scenic cruise to admire the beautiful lakeside villas and gardens.
Welcome to Milan, the global capital of fashion and design but also Roman remains, Medieval piazzas and Neoclassical palaces. Check in to our accommodation and meet your IOAB tour leader and the other travellers at 3:00pm. Head down to the historical centre passing by the spectacular Duomo, Vittorio Emanuele II’s gallery, the world famous La Scala opera house, the medieval Castello Sforzesco to conclude in the Navigli, a popular area in Milan where you will enjoy the city aperitivo time, something of an institution in Milan.
In the morning we will travel to Como by local train . After a 1h30 minutes ride, arrive to Como, situated on the banks of the lake, encircled by enchanting hills and famours for being the birthplace of many historically notable figures including the scientist Alessandro Volta. Here you will have free time to check out the many interesting sites whilst meandering through the streets of Como, visit the historical monuments, beautiful villas and breath-taking sights.
We will then take a ferry across the lake Como towards Bellagio, a small village at the top of a long hilly promontory between the two southern branches of Lake Como. This elegant but tiny town is an excellent place to relax and enjoy the lovely views, classy boutiques, two gardens to visit, picturesque lanes, a choice of restaurants and bars. After Bellagio catch a ferry to Varenna, an attractive village on the eastern shore of Lake Como with the picturesque lanes and old fishermen’s houses for a perfect gelato or cold drink with amazing views. Back to Milan in the evening.
It is time to say goodbye to Lake Como and head to one of the most romantic Italian city of Verona, home of the famous Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet and well known for its spectacular Roman Amphitheatre. Once in Verona, you will have a full day of free time to visit the famous balcony of Romeo and Juliet, do some shopping and sightseeing.
On the third day we will check out in the morning at 10:00am which is officially the time the tour ends but you will be able to spend the whole day in Milan simply by storing your bags at the accommodation until you leave. On your last free day we recommend a visit to the roof of Milan’s Duomo to enjoy the views of the city and the mountains beyond or do some shopping the Italy’s fashion capital.

LEONARDO DA VINCI’S “THE LAST SUPPER”:Unfortunately it is closed on Mondays but if you arrive in Milan in the morning, it is worth a visit. Remember to book the ticket at least 3 weeks in advance.
